Composer Lap Book Tips & Tricks

Now that I have assembled several of the Composer lap books, I wanted to share a few tips & tricks with you to make the assembly process at home go as smoothly as possible. Note also that there are brief instructions on each page of lap book components. These instructions can be very helpful!

For older kids (those who are assembling the lap books independently):

Each week’s lap book assignment should take 30 minutes or less to complete, depending on how much coloring/reading you do, and how many pieces need to be cut out.

  1. Tune in to Mrs. Henry’s playlist of the month to get some background music going. đŸ™‚
  2. Color everything you want to color.
  3. Fill in all the written information that is requested. This information will come from the composer brochure.
  4. Cut out all the pieces you received that week. Cut on solid lines only.
  5. Fold on the dotted lines all the pieces that need folded.
  6. Looking at pictures of the finished lap book, arrange all your pieces so you know where they are going to go. Do this BEFORE you glue anything down.
  7. Glue the pieces into your lap book.
  8. Allow glue to dry for several minutes. Then tuck items into pockets where they belong.
  9. Admire your great work!

For younger kids (those assembling lap books with assistance from a parent):

I strongly suggest working on the lap books on several different occasions each week. Maybe break up your time by tasks – use one session to color; a second session for filling out answers; a third session for cutting/folding; a fourth session for arranging and gluing. This will create a more balanced approach each week, and will also allow you many opportunities throughout the week to review and discuss the information that has been learned about each composer. You can even make it a regular first step to read the composer brochure at the start of every lap book session!

  1. Tune in to Mrs. Henry’s playlist of the month to get some background music going. đŸ™‚
  2. Have your student color in everything that needs colored. You can read the composer brochure to him/her during this time.
  3. Assist your student with completing the written information that is requested. This information will come from the composer brochure. This is a great way to immediately review what was just read to him/her.
  4. Have your student cut out pieces that need cut out, cutting on solid lines only. You can assist with cutting some of the more intricate pieces.
  5. Assist your student with folding on all the dotted lines for the pieces that need folded.

Feel free to ask me questions about your lap book assembly each week at lessons as well. I have seen some really great Bach lap books this month!
